Turkish officials say at least six people have been killed and scores wounded when two car bombs exploded in the eastern part of the country. A large explosion rocked an area near a police station in the eastern Turkish town of Elazig and three police officers were killed, Turkish media reported, hours after a car bomb killed three people elsewhere in the region. Video footage obtained by the private Dogan news agency showed a large plume of smoke rising from the area of the blast, the cause of which was not clear. Abuja (AFP) - Nigeria said Wednesday it has launched a mass campaign of emergency polio vaccinations after reporting two new cases of the disease earlier in August. Both new cases were diagnosed in the northeastern state of Borno, which has been ravaged by Boko Haram insurgents, highlighting the difficulty of providing basic health services in the impoverished region. "So far we have commenced vaccination of children," health minister Isaac Adewole told reporters in the capital Abuja, after the campaign started on Monday.
