Everything We Know About Boko Haram’s Abubakar Shekau

Nigeria says he was killed in a government airstrike. But reports of his death are not infrequent Nigeria claimed on Tuesday that its air force had killed a number of senior Boko Haram militants, possibly including the group’s elusive and notorious former leader, Abubakar Shekau. Government planes attacked the fighters in the village of Taye inside the Sambisa forest in Borno State during a raid on the Islamists’ northeast heartland on Friday night, Reuters reports. Army spokesman Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman said, in a statement, that “Their leader, so called ‘Abubakar Shekau’, is believed to be fatally wounded on his shoulders.” However, this is at least the fourth time Shekau’s death has been reported. Despite the military declaring him killed in 2009, a man purporting to be Shekau reappeared in videos posted on the internet less than a year later, when he ridiculed suggestions of his death.

This Olympic Silver Medalist Made a Gesture That Could Get Him Arrested or Even Killed

Ethiopian marathon runner Feyisa Lilesa scored big for his country at the 2016 Olympics, getting a silver medal in the men's marathon by completing the race in two hours, nine minutes, and 54 seconds. But it was the final seconds of his race that attracted worldwide attention - and could land him in jail if he goes back home. Lilesa raised his hands in an "X" symbol as he finished the marathon. The "X" was a gesture of solidarity with the Oromo people, the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia, who have been killed by the hundreds in government crackdowns on protests, according to the Washington Post . Oromo protesters have been speaking out against the government for trying to expand its capital city onto their land and have been using the "X" hand gesture for several months. "The Ethiopian government is killing my people, so I stand with all protests anywhere, as Oromo is my tribe," Lilesa said at a press conference. "

Highlights:Chelsea 3-2 Bristol Rovers

It's exceedingly rare to not have a Chelsea match available on television nowadays, but this second round League Cup EFL Cup matchup against Bristol Rovers was one such occasion. That's not to say there no cameras at the ground, recording the match for highlights and future replays, but there were only two places to watch the game live, Stamford Bridge, and Rovers' home stadium on an exclusive "beam-back".  Not even illegal streaming was a possibility for the Internet savvy, though the social media hero who broadcasted the whole thing on his Twitter account via a really low quality Periscope stream probably deserves some misguided "fight the system" award.
